Iraqi troops donate money to fire victims!!
I was catching up on my paper reading and finally getting to Saturday's paper today! I love reading the paper but often get fed up when finding something incredibly positive tucked away on the back side of a section, which leads me to todays post. My interest was peaked just by the title of an article about Iraq. The story is about a group of Iraqi soldiers that have donated $500 to help California wildfire victims. This was done to send a message to us the American people that "we are a family" states Iraqi Colonel Abbas Fadhil. Per the article the military says it is the FOURTH donation sent by the Iraqi's to Americans hit by tragedy. Thursday's statement says they also raised $1500 for victims of hurricanes Gustave and Ike and donated $500 to the National Sept. 11th Memorial. This in incredible because the wonderful media we have will never speak about this information what is more incredible is that right next to this article is another article with a picture showing the American flag being burned and a huge article about an efigy of Bush being burned in an anti-US protest. I am not naive by any means, but the good that is happening in Iraq is so ignored that it is sad. But you read that article...sure I read it on the back page of a sub-par newspaper in Lake Charles, Louisiana. If someone out there in a big city gets to read positive articles by NEUTRAL writers who report all news please let me in on the bounty! I am encouraged by that article and I do also want our troops home, they are tired and lonely. But this weekend I was at a Third Day concert and they were actually on the USO tour and were able to perform for our troops and they were very appreciative and they wanted us to know that regardless of the media good things were going on in Iraq. How sad that even the military feels its voice is squelched! If anyone can suggest a balanced, media please let me know, I am dying for some positive news and right now we need it, we are about to go into four years of look how bad Bush screwed this all up!!! Yep, I'm synical, yep I'm pessimistic but at least I know it and am trying to do something about it!
